I’m surprised this episode hasn’t been mentioned yet…as i found relevance. As for my view of the plot…I love that the ‘ending’ was open-ended. You get to decide if the glass is half-full or half-empty.

(I suppose if someone hasn’t/can’t see it…i could put it in one of my clouds to download.)

we did, but it was in the blog posts https://phantasia.life/ooh-apparently-im-still-alive/

there is so much hidden in the blog posts, that’s why stuff was moved to the forum instead

also someone even managed (on reddit creatures community) to track down the directors creatures article https://www.reddit.com/r/CreaturesGames/comments/1jz61h4/i_managed_to_track_down_black_mirror_writer/

and when i talk with someone about this project, i often meantion a precurser is the inspiration of a black mirror episode but unlike colin, steve is no quitter, he is still working on it, that catches attention 😉

Is black mirror with watching?  I have a notoriously short attention span for video content.  It took me two weeks to get through the first dune movie of the latest series even though I can read the novel in an afternoon.

I think so. Think of Black Mirror as a modern day “Twilight Zone”. The plots tend to be very relevant to what’s going on in present day…just moved about 10 minutes to 10 months in the future. The Black Mirror is…of course…your powered down monitor, your cellphone turned off…etc. It is dark drama/humor.

I finally watched it!  I nearly managed to sit through the whole episode too.  I did spend half of it on my laptop, but I almost didn’t get bored.

My wife decided to watch black mirror starting from the latest season.  I found it terribly dull.  Most of the episodes had either a major flaw in the logic or could have easily been handled in a twenty minute episode, sometimes both, but she seemed to enjoy it anyway.

I was overall disappointed in the representation of Steve’s character as a stuffy Howard Hughes type, but I understand from what I’ve read that it was more about the writer imagining a parallel life that might have happened to him in a Twilight zone universe. Capaldi was great, even if he was the worst doctor of all time(granted, I haven’t seen any post Capaldi doctor who, so there’s room to wither yet.)

I loved all of the retro hardware and the old magazines.  It took me back in time for a moment.  I hope that the writer got to keep some of that stuff (anytime I see something pricey or rare on TV, I assume that it was purchased with the intent of some executive producer or director to spend studio funds in order to later furnish their apartment for free).

Funnily enough, someone reminded me about this episode yesterday, and it got me curious enough to discover this entire website, and forum, were here! I had genuinely thought Grandroids had fallen off the face of the earth.

A not insignificant chunk of my childhood was spent mucking about with Creatures 2, 3 and docking station. Barely anything has scratched that itch since (except maybe Trico from The Last Guardian), so this has really made my day.

I actually posted a long-form post on Tumblr about this Black Mirror episode, and some surface level detail around Steve’s work in Creatures, back in April, so once I sort out paid membership, and get exploring, I’ll be sure to write a bit more about it.

I don’t think that character was meant to be based on him, was he? I thought they based the episode on several games and creatures was just the aesthetic.

@squirrel creatures was the inspiration. However inspiration can be streched.

@genesis hey sorry to ask again but would you mind editing these posts where my full name/email is the handle? I’m trying to get it fixed. Thanks! 🤗

@genesis no, as far as i am aware i have not yet recieved elevated privileges.  but i think that once we have a new build, edits should be allowed for at least 24 hours, although, i can’t see any real problems with unlimited edits.

I’m not exactly sure how a person could abuse edits other than to make someone look a bit foolish, but i assume we’re mostly just adults here.  That being said, i think most of us were internet kids once, so i always try to be polite since i can only assume that they’re also here.

@steve Heck yeah! I’m super excited to go back and edit some things soon, looks like it works!

@squirrel, @genesis, @FoggyGoofball  I *think* I’ve turned off the editability timeout now – it involved about 5 different options buried somewhere in 25 pages of settings! Nothing is ever easy…
