I dunned a video. Or at least, I think I have…
I’m still a few days away from being able to post a new build, I’m afraid – I completely forgot that I’d have to rewrite the loadscreen. I don’t even see that until I come to make a build, so I forgot that it depends on various UI-related things in the main scene. But it won’t be long!
British voices are always a delight in videos, I blame David Attenborough.
I love the idea of the notebook, it fits the Frampton Gurney theme so well! I also like the idea of combining the tool bar and inventory in that intuitive way. really good stuff, looking forward to playing with it!
I like the idea of putting all the UI in the notebook, and the ability to type in commands is very nice too!
Looks very promising! Nice idea with the interactive notebook.
Just want to write down an random idea I got.
For a feedback on the players emotions, maybe making a smiley doodle representing the players emotions.
Because I really like the idea of no direct avatar of the player. Gives more imagination for us.
But some feedback would be nice.
How about a “random” doodle as feedback about our mind.
Rainbow and sunshine smiley for happy. Clouds with rain and sad smiley for sad. And so on.
Some “crappy” doodle design would work best.
I love the idea of the combined toolbar/inventory. And I like the idea of always having your brain scanners and gene splicers and other tools at hand, instead of them being clunky stationary devices that you have to herd your creatures towards before they can be scanned.
This looks suspiciously compatible with VR controls lol. I like the idea of all the tools being physical items you can pick and choose.
Nice to see and hear you! I am a fan of the video format ๐
Good work on the latest and greatest – I like the idea of ditching a 2D UI entirely.
Since I saw in one of your comments about eventually asking others about what more you can put in. If you get bored, I think it would be cool to have glasses that you wear so you can stick a drone or similar that lets you keep an eye on one of the creatures, showing you an instance of the camera footage in the corner of your vision. Or something to that effect ๐
Look forward to seeing more; hope you’re keeping in good health
are “notes” just anything the user types and enters that isn’t validly interpretable as a command? an invalid command that goes in the command log without the system responding?
Hi Steve,
I finally had time to watch the video and think about it. Really awesome stuff! Especially the ability to take your tools with you in an intuitive way.
Two (hopefully helpful) ideas:
1. What if the toolbar used a UI similar to the one in Minecraft (called “Hotbar”)? Then, the Notebook can be a tool as well (you can keep the Tab key as a shortcut). I’m suggesting this because, in the video, I find that the (closed) Notebook blocks us from seeing what is right in front of us.
2. What if, when opening the Notebook, the left side was used to display a tree view of all the available commands? So, instead of typing them, you can unfold subtrees. This enables issuing new commands very quickly. For example, when watching various maps, we could click on the corresponding tree items to quickly “switch” from one to the next. If the command requires a user input, then a text box can appear at the end of that tree item.
This would probably be a better solution than the SET command. But it would also be more work. If you like this idea, I hope you find an existing tree view component for Unity.
Thanks for the vid. Notebook is a great idea.
